4th Kentucky Unit History

The 4th Kentucky Infantry CS Reenactment Unit was established in 1972. This Unit is the oldest continuous reenactment unit in the Commonwealth of Kentucky . In 1992, The 4th KY Infantry CS was designated the Commonwealth of Kentucky 's official Confederate Reenactment Unit by proclamation of the Governor of Kentucky The members of the unit portray original members of Company “F”, 4th Kentucky Infantry and assume the identity (alter ego) of those original soldiers during events. The original Company “F” 4th Kentucky was made up of men from Green, Taylor , Adair, and Wayne County , Kentucky . Many of these men were original members of the State Guard Unit, called the “Greensburg Guard.” The 4th Kentucky was a member of the famed “Orphan Brigade.” They fought in every major engagement with the Army of Tennessee, from Shiloh to Atlanta. At the beginning of the War, the Orphan Brigade was 5000 strong. Fewer than 500 returned at the end of the War. Our membership is currently made up of 40 men from central Kentucky , Indiana , Ohio , & Tennessee . The Unit attends reenactments & living history events all over the United States . Our preference is events that the original 4th Kentucky would have fought in. We also do events at National Parks.
